Task - Changing the Air Filter
Difficulty:
Approximating time: 45 minutes
Number of steps: 12
Number of tools needed: 4
Number of people needed: 1
Replacement part(s): 1
Stand needed: Not required
The objective: Changing the Air Filter.
The time to do so: Recommended every 12,000 miles.
The effects/damages if you don't do it: Motorcycles, like people, need clean air to breathe. Dirty air filters will lower your gas mileage and throttle response considerably.
The tools: Air Filter (OEM: 17210-MBW-D21), Phillips Screwdriver, 8MM & 10MM Socket, and an Allen Wrench.
Step 1 - Remove the two (2) bolts of the seat with a 10MM socket.

Step 2 - Remove the seat and with an allen wrench remove the two bolts and the seat bracket holding the tank.

Step 3 - Remove the two (2) bolts and washers of the tank (near the steering) with a 10MM socket.

Step 4 - Remove the two (2) bolts of the air intake duct covers with an allen wrench. You do not have to completely remove the covers but make sure they do not attach to the tank anymore.

Step 5 - Now you will need to lift the tank from the front a little and move it back. I use bungee cords to hold the tank open.

Step 6 - Unplug the sensor at the top of the box.

Step 7 - Remove the ten (10) bolts securing the upper airbox cover.

Step 8 - Remove the air filter.

Step 9 - Clean the inside of the airbox.

Step 10 - Install the new filter.

Note: Alternative air filters you may use: K&N HA-6001 or BMC 194/09.

Step 11 - Put everything back together in the reverse order.

Step 12 - GO RIDE.
